Exhaustive List of Mutawatir Ahadith
This post will provide the best Online English resources for students of Ahadith. The only comprehensive list of Mutawatir Hadith I was able to find online and in English:
http://web.archive.org/web/20061031015411/http://hadith.al-islam.com/bayan/Index.asp?Lang=ENG&Type=3
*This is certified by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Da'wah and Guidance. Minister Sheikh / Salih Bin ‘Abdul ‘Aziz Al al-Sheikh.
Every scholar of Hadith differed as to the exact number of narrators required to certify a Hadith as Mutawatir.
For example:
1. Allah's Messenger said: Do not attribute lies to me, for anyone who attributes lies to me will be doomed to Hell-Fire.
This Hadith is narrated by about 70 different companions. It passes every degree of historicity due to the variety of Isnads. It can be safely said that Muhammad(pbuh) definitely said these words.
21. Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:
Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is my life, the Son of Mary (may peace be upon him) will soon descend among you as a just judge. He will break crosses, kill swine and abolish Jizyah, and the wealth will pour forth to such an extent that no one will accept it.
It is absolutely true that Abu Hurairah narrated this Hadith with this exact wording, as it appears 10 times in the books of Bukhari, Muslim and Abu Dawud. The problem is that no other Companion narrated this Hadith, using this exact wording. Therefore, the student of Hadith will have no choice but to rely on the sole statement of this one Companion. This is a Ahad hadith(Unique), but not Mutawatir. This does not mean the Hadith is a false-attribution, but it has far less credibility than the previous one.
The Sheikh certifies 324 Ahadith as Mutawatir. These are all recognized as Sahih(Authentic) by all Sunni Muslims and the majority of Shi'ites.
The official website, as of this date, only offers the webpage in Arabic. Thanks to the Wayback Machine by Archive.org, we can still view the entire list in English.
Insha'Allah, I will expound on the veracity of each Hadith in the future.
Sahih Sittah
The only website I could find online, that includes all of the Sahih Sittah (Six Authentic Books), is Sunnah.com
It also includes other Authentic books as well, in user-friendly webpages.
Partial Manuscripts
Here
I will provide links to photocopies of the earliest dated manuscripts of the
Ahadith literature:
1.
Gharib al-Hadith, by Abu `Ubayd
al-Qasim b. Sallam al-Harawi (d. 223/837). The oldest known dated Arabic
manuscript on paper in Turkey libraries (dated 319 (931 AD)).

2. PERF No. 731: The Earliest
Manuscript Of Malik's Muwatta' Dated To the Second half of second century of hijra.
This papyrus fragment is dated to Malik's (d. 179 AH / 795 CE) own time.
Located at Austrian National
Library, Vienna.
3. The Sahifah of Hammam ibn
Munabbih [sic.]
I advise the reader to visit:
http://quransmessage.com/articles/sahifah%20FM3.htm before jumping to the conclusion that this Sahifah is
actually original. The author's conclusion was:
Therefore, the manuscripts at both Berlin and
Damascus are not the original manuscripts of Hammam ibn Munabbih from
the 1st century of Islam that they are widely understood to be. Rather, they
are later documents transmitted by an array of attestors purporting to
represent an earlier document. The manuscripts at Berlin and Damascus represent
nothing more than the Musannaf of Abdul Razzaq which not only includes
transmissions from the chain 'Hammam ibn Munabbih - Ma'mar - Abd al-Razzaq' (as
cited in the Damascus manuscript) but also an array of other transmissions such
as those from Sufyan Al-Thawi and Ibn Jurayj.
Complete Manuscripts
The
only comprehensive list of Complete Manuscripts I was able to find online:
*This
is a collection of 11,000 manuscripts that were painstakingly scanned and
uploaded, page-by-page, by King Saud University. They are free to view.
To find a particular book, such as Sahih Bukhari, simply type the author's name in Search: Manuscript Name.
The Dates are hard to decipher if AH (After Hijri) aren't mentioned after the Copy Date. If 'AH' or 'e' are missing, it's probably based on the Gregorian Calender. After viewing a particular Manuscript(Commentary on Bukhari):
Author:
Alkstalani, Ahmed bin Mohammed
Author Date: 923 e
Author Date: 923 e
The only reference I could find to Al-Kastalani was in Page 26 of The oriental biographical dictionary by Henry Beale. It states about him:
An author who died in the year 1627 AD, 933 AH.
An example of an early text:
Facilitation of the seven readings
Abu Amr Dani, Othman Bin Saeed
444 e
Copy Date:
The second century Ashral (?) hjeri
It is very very useful information. Thanks a lot
ReplyDeleteNo problem my friend, and Eid Mubarak to you.
ReplyDeleteI must appreciate for sharing your knowledge.
ReplyDelete"This is an example of a so-called Mutawatir Hadith that is, in actuality, either a lie or a forgery."
I think you should remove this comment as this exceed the limit of scholarship and decency. Also this hadith factually corroborate Quranic message as well.
I changed it, thanks for letting me know. The 'corroboration' of a hadith to the Quranic message is irrelevant in this post. I simply wanted to make a guide for deciphering hadith. But, in my personal opinion, I find it very faulty. Salam.
Deleteالسلام عليكم،
ReplyDeleteI became interested when I read your profile. Do you know the wonderful podcast by Amine Tais (http://aminetais.podbean.com/)?
How did you came by your conclusion?
مع السلامة
